Actor Marlon Brando had a passion for environmentally sustainable systems and advised French Polynesian resort owner Richard Bailey to work with Common Heritage Corporation (CHC) in Hawaii to help him reduce energy costs for his newest resort. CHC assisted Bailey and his company TBSA put together the resource team to use deep, cold ocean water to save 90% of the cost and carbon emission of conventional air conditioning systems. As a direct result, Bailey opened his newest resort, the InterContinental Resort and Thalasso Spa in 2006 with a state-of-art deep ocean water air conditioning system. CHC continues to work in partnership with Bailey to use cold ocean water systems for aquaculture, agriculture, fresh water production as well as the sea water air conditioning. Plans are underway for other French Polynesian projects including a new resort on Tetiaroa island in conjunction with the Brando Estate. The video below shows how the system works in Bora Bora.
